Stargazer, I cannot fully answer your question as I have not tried the wood version of the Ultrasonic but the 0.6Kg difference makes a bigger difference than you think, probably the equivalent of you losing 5Kg!
I have however tried wood version of the isonic and futura (an other brands) and all I will say is they feel less crisp, softer i.e handles chop better but as the Ultrasonic will be used in nothing but flatwater then I would try to get a carbon model.
