iSonic Speed Special

Hi. Anyone who has an experience with any of them. I`m sailing on the Oslo-fjord and the wind and waves/chops are always going in the same direction. Never ultra flat or big waves. I have a iSonic 94 and 122 from 2009, and I love the 94, but I want to go faster !!!!!! I`m 82kg and I like to use my 6.8, 6.0 or 5.3 sail. Thinking of the W49 or (W54). Thanks Morten

I have sailed both.

The W54 is very sweet with 6.2/7.0. Whereas the W49 6.2/55. Both can take one size bigger sail, but not ideal.

Guess it comes down to what sails you use more often.

The 49 would be the way to go as a one speed board solution.

Im still on the older W53, very very similar to the W54. If your sailing in open water all the time, the W54 will be the best board for you. This board is super easy, has a big sail range and able to do over 40k easy. I will always have a W53/54 in the speed quiver

On a nice flat speed course and in good winds, the W49 will potentially have higher speeds, but in less than perfect conditions the W54 will give you a higher average speed.

The good thing about the W54/W53 in open water is the OFO (around 32/33cm) so it can take bigger fins to avoid the rear-end letting go in between the chop.

As Maximus say's, both can take one sail size bigger. I use an 8m on the W53 an a regular basis and it is fine

I use the iSonic speed W53 mainly with 6.6 & 7.7 m2 sails and I agree with Mark it's a perfect board to speed in open water all the time, providing the chop stays in the small to moderate size. In heavy chop, a dedicated high-wind slalom à la iSonic 80 would fit better IMHO.
