Introducing the New Gen R: A Flat-Deck race paddleboard for all conditions

Starboard is proud to launch the new Gen R, a flat-deck race paddleboard designed for speed, control, and versatility. Drawing from the performance DNA of the All Star and Sprint, the Gen R delivers the glide of an elite race board with the freedom and feel of a flat deck.

The Gen R was built for SUP racing in flat water, chop, and technical conditions, offering a lightweight, more forgiving alternative to traditional dugout boards. Refined through multiple prototypes and real-world testing, it’s faster upwind, more stable in side chop, and more agile downwind—giving paddlers at every level the confidence to push harder in any race scenario.

With key innovations such as the new round tail, optimized rocker curve, vee bottom shape, lowered standing area, and lighter overall design, the GenR is positioned to meet the needs of both elite-level athletes and everyday paddlers looking for a competitive edge.

“The new Gen R feels fast and more stable. The nose release is smoother, and the tail gives great control once you step back. It’s a really well-rounded board that turns well and feels ready for anything.”

What Makes the New Gen R Special?

› FLAT-DECK FREEDOM - ELITE PERFORMANCE

With a slightly recessed standing area, the Gen R offers low-center stability without sacrificing mobility. It’s intuitive to move on and ideal for paddlers who prefer a flat-deck feel over dugout designs.

› BALANCED ROCKER CURVE

A new rocker profile, positioned between the All Star and the original Gen R, makes the board more forgiving in chop and faster in flat water—helping you hold momentum across all conditions.

› ALL STAR INSPIRED TAIL & BOTTOM SHAPE

The rounded tail and vee bottom make the Gen R more maneuverable in downwind and surf conditions, with enhanced secondary stability for control in side chop.

› LIGHTER, THINNER BUILD

Reduced volume means less windage, quicker acceleration, and improved responsiveness—perfect for sprinting, beach starts, and long-distance races.

› NEW RECESSED EVA HANDLE

Softer on the knuckles, firmer in the grip—this new handle design is optimized for fast, confident beach starts.

“It’s a super good evolution—the tail turns quickly, the rounded rails help with control in beach races, and the board just feels more predictable overall.”

“The round tail makes it super easy to turn, and the rails give you that surfy feel you want in the waves. I’m excited to test this in a tech race—it’s smooth, stable, and just feels great.”
