Frequently Asked Questions - Wing & Foiling:
WINGS
How do I know what size wing to buy?
Our wings come in a large range of sizes from the smallest 2.5m² to a big lightwind 7m², which covers a wide wind range from as little as 6 knots all the way up to 40+ knots (for a rider of about +-75kg).
The less the wind, the larger the sail size you will need to get going and visa versa. Each wing mode and size l has it's own unquie recommended wind range which you can locate under the 'Specifications' tab on the relevant products product page.
How do I know how hard to pump my wing?
Pumping your wing to the correct PSI makes a big difference to your performance and comfort on the water. Make sure to check the recommended PSI as indicated next to each valve on your wing and pump your wing to this pressure using a pump with a pressure gauge. For a stiffer feel, you may pump your wing up to 1 PSI higher than the recommended PSI, but we would recommend not to pump lower than the recommended PSI on the strut or leading edge, as this will be detrimental to the performance of your wing.
Should I inflate my wings strut or leading edge first?
Starboard recommends inflating the strut first. Based on extensive testing, we found that inflating the strut first ensures correct inflation at the strut end connected to the leading edge. This allows the bladder to seat properly inside the strut after inflation and helps prevent creasing and micro-damage to the strut bladder.
Which type of valves are used in Starboard's Wings?
Starboard wings use Halkey-Roberts (HR) air valves, the same valves used on our inflatable boards.
Where can I find the adapter to pump my Starboard Wings?
Every Starboard wing comes with a Halkey-Roberts (HR) valve adapter.
When should I install the boom onto my wing, before or after inflating?
Good question. You should add some pressure to the strut before trying to install your boom. This will help to stretch the strut attachment points on the boom further apart and make the boom easier to mount. See the full step-by-step guide in the Wing User Guide.
