We’re beyond stoked to officially welcome Romain Ghio to the Starboard Wing & Foil Dream Team.
Hailing from Marseille in the south of France — home to the relentless Mistral winds — Romain joins us as both a dedicated wingfoil racer and a key contributor to our race wing development program.
At 27 and newly graduated as an engineer, he combines a strong competitive edge with a deep understanding of speed and efficiency. As a member of the French wingfoil team, his roots in Olympic windsurfing (RS:X and IQFOIL) continue to shape his approach to performance at the highest level.

Beyond the racecourse, Romain’s role extends far deeper than competition. He will play a crucial part in designing and refining the next generation of Starboard race wings, helping drive our vision toward the Olympic future of wingfoiling.
Training year-round in Marseille’s strong wind conditions, he’s constantly refining performance where it matters most — on the water, at speed.
We’re fired up to have him on board — both on the race circuit and in the development room — as we continue to push the limits of what’s possible in wingfoil racing.

ROMAIN IN ACTION
Join Romain for his first sessions with Starboard — linking up with Svein and the team at the opening X-15 Class event in Langkawi, straight into on-water testing and early race action. Off the water, he’s already diving into the Bowstring project at HQ, getting up to speed on the next generation of race wing development.
