Tell us more about yourself. When did you start windsurfing? What is your home spot and how did you discover windsurfing?

l learned windsurfing as a kid, my dad taught me. He’s a windsurfer too… well, nowadays he’s more into kiting 😄. I actually started a bit later than many others. While a lot of kids begin when they’re six or seven, I only really got into windsurfing when I was around twelve or thirteen. But once I started, things happened pretty fast. After one or two years of learning the basics and practicing my jibes, I discovered freestyle. I saw the freestyle scene around Brouwersdam and was immediately like: That’s what I want to do. When I landed my first Air Jibe, it was a crazy moment: so much adrenaline and happiness at once. From that moment on I knew: this is my discipline!
I don’t really have one single home spot. Since I finished school in 2018, I’ve been living mostly in a van, traveling to wherever the wind is best. I studied a lot from Spain (Tarifa) and Kiel (Büsum and Fehmarn), so for the last seven years maybe those spots are my “home spots”. When I still went to school I surfed mostly in the Netherlands (Strand Horst, Brouwersdam) and Leucate.

Joining the Starboard International Team for 2026 is a big milestone. What does this moment represent in your journey as an athlete?

Winning my first PWA trophy 2025 on the IGNiTE showed me that I’m on the right path and that my hard work is paying off. Being part of the Starboard International Team now really feels like the cherry on top. It’s a clear step forward into the right direction, especially with what I truly believe is the best freestyle board out there. Having this kind of support behind me gives me a lot of confidence and motivation to keep pushing my level and my results even further.

Looking ahead to this upcoming season - what are your plans, goals and events you plan to attend?

My main focus for the upcoming season is definitely becoming more consistent with my new power moves. I’ve recently learned moves like Culo and Kabi, and my goal now is to make them solid enough to land them even in difficult competition conditions. Competition-wise, I’m planning to attend the FPT and the PWA Freestyle tour stops, as well as one or two wave events. My goal is to keep building on last season’s results and show a strong and confident freestyle level on the tours.

What message would you like to send to young girls who are thinking to start freestyling and one day also join the competition?

Don’t be afraid to try, to fall, and to take your time. Everyone starts somewhere and step closer to a new move is a big win. And the harder the trick is, the more often you crash before you land it: the more rewarding it will be when you stick it. And that feeling was the greatest motivation to me. My biggest message is: don’t wait until you feel “perfect” to start. You don’t need the biggest moves to belong in freestyle or to enter your first competition. If you enjoy learning tricks, pushing yourself and being on the water, you are already on the right path. It really helps to go out on the water with friends who share the same passion. Having other girls around, trying tricks together, cheering each other on - that’s super motivating and makes it way more fun. I’m always happy to share tips and help out whenever I can  and maybe there will be some nice opportunities to connect and ride together in the near future ;)

From van life to the podium, Lisa’s journey is a powerful reminder that belief, hard work, and passion can take you far. As she steps into the 2026 season with Starboard by her side, we’re looking forward to seeing her progression, her creativity, and her impact on the freestyle scene grow even stronger.
